About me

I am Elizabeth Bennett and I was born and raised in South Carolina. I grew up and lived there until my mid 30's when I moved to Los Angeles for four years. Recently, I returned to South Carolina due to the bad economy and to keep an eye on my elderly mother.

I was bullied for 27 years and that is why I am so passionate about this cause. Believe me, I know the damage this can do to a person which is why I call this Peer Abuse.

I never married or had children. Now Mr. Right could still come along, who knows. I have always focused on my career instead. Even though I like children, I do not think I could be a good mother.

I am a mother in a sense to my cat Popcat. He is an orange and white tabby cat and is a tad overweight. We are trying to cut down on his food intake as food to him is like a pacifer is to a baby. This cat is so much like a child and is quirky. For example, he tries to climb into the washing machine and dryer. Also, will take about five pieces of Pounce treats and line them up in a row. He has a lot of personality and I love him to bits.

I use to play the piano and cello as a child. However, I never felt I was any good at them. I love music though and enjoy most any that is out there. Except for country; I have never liked that style of music. Old school stuff is good.

My sense of humor is good. I enjoy sarcasm a lot. As long as it is not hurtful its good. The MTV character Daria that was popular in the late 1990's was hysterical. Some may see her as a smart aleck but I liked her. She just made me laugh. My friends say I can be funny. I usually make them laugh.

I am a bear collector and have been since 1974 when I got my first bear. It belonged to a lady who taught school with my mother and she did not want it anymore so she gave it to me. Now, I have probably over 100 stuffed bears along with bear clothes, jewelry, rugs, posters, figurines, pictures and other odds and ends. I also collect keychains and everywhere I go to visit, I generally purchase one. Oh and the requisite tee shirt too!

Traveling is great. I have been to countries such as Canada, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Israel and hope to visit more in my lifetime. I would love to go to Italy next. I love Italian food!

I never knew my paternal grandmother and that bothers me. I have been told we are very much alike.

I am a Christian but am tolerant of others beliefs and religions. I have friends from different backgrounds. They do not slam me for my beliefs nor do I slam them for theirs. We get along great that way. I am spiritual too. Plus, I love helping people. I cannot save the world but I can try to make it a better place.

Stop this Abuse! Who needs it?

Well, after the Thanksgiving weekend I came back to a lot of stuff to catch up on. One article just stood out and could not let go of it. It was written in Canada but can assure you that this problem is alive and well in America. Adults should know better and grow up, learn to leave this garbage at the door. However, from experience and the feedback I get daily, I can assure you that childhood bullies grow worse and exist in the office as well.

In the article, I read of a woman working in an o… Continue

Facebook is Da Bomb Diggity!

Yesterday kicked off Anti-bullying Week and it goes from November 16-20 2009. One thing that is really being focused upon is the problem of cyber-bullying. As we all know, this is a problem that is out of control and at some point, someone needs to put a stop to it. The problem is a huge one on social sites like My Space, Facebook, Twitter, Bebo and others where kids can go and interact with their friends as well as adults. . Facebook has decided to take some preventative measures and has launch… Continue

Zero Tolerance is a Flawed System

As I was watching the local news last evening, I happened to see a segment on the issue of zero tolerance on there. Basically, local school districts were giving their policies and procedures as to how they handle this problem within their schools. The parents were complaining that zero tolerance was too strict and needed to be handled on a case to case basis. Schools have implemented this policy for quite some time in order to cut down on criminal behavior, catch the bullying going on and to ba… Continue

Hi, I am Laura Payne and it is funny you mentioned school bullying. My son is twelve and he is on the small side and last week he had a problem on the bus. There is a boy is about 3 times my sons side and he started pushing on my son. At first it seemed like he was just playing around, but apparantly he does this all the time to my son. Son on Monday my son had had enough and he started pushing him back. To make a long story short the larger guy took my son's seat away, began to onto the window yelling at other people outside of the bus, I was told my son started pulling on him to get his seat back and the window broke. Both were suspended off of the bus for the remainder of the week. I went to the school to meet with the lady over the principalI to view the tape. The tape mysteriously stopped before the window broke and started back up after.

I do agree that the zero tolerance rule is going to far sometimes. Kids are sometimes reluctant to go and tell on another student even though we as parents tell them to do so until something actually happens more times than not it is not reported.

Anyway, the boy picking on my son did get suspended and my son now knows that is better to go and tell someone just to avoid the future trouble that dtrying to defend yourself brings.

Now I do not tell my son not to take up for himself, but I do want him to go through the apprpriate stages whenever possible.
